Raising Kids When You Are In The Military

Children in military families change schools more often (averaging 6-9 schools) and experience additional stress related to their parents’ deployment. Thanks to many organizations like the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) for their focus on helping military children.

The AASA reports these statistics about military children:

  • The average military family moves three times more often than their civilian counterpart.

  • The repeated and extended separations and increased hazards of deployment compound stressors in military children's lives.

  • One third of school-age military children show psychosocial behaviors such as being anxious, worrying often, crying more frequently.

Given the increased stress these children are under, they benefit from extra support.
